Senior management bears overall responsibility for ensuring that effective arrangements are in place for the planning, implementation, monitoring and review of health and safety across all operations.

Managers and supervisors are responsible for day-to-day implementation of this policy, including providing guidance to staff, checking that safe systems of work are followed and addressing any concerns raised by employees or clients regarding safety.

Employee Responsibilities

Every employee of Cleaners NW8 has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff are required to:

Follow all health and safety procedures, instructions and training provided by the company.
Use cleaning products, tools and equipment only for their intended purpose and in accordance with training and product information.
Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment provided for each task.
Report hazards, defects, accidents, near misses and concerns to their supervisor without delay.
Cooperate with management in implementing improvements and corrective actions.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Cleaners NW8 undertakes regular risk assessments of cleaning tasks and working environments to identify potential hazards, such as slips and trips, manual handling, exposure to chemicals, electrical equipment, lone working and work at height for internal window cleaning.

Use of Cleaning Chemicals and Substances

Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly to management. Details are recorded, investigated and used to identify underlying causes and opportunities for preventing recurrence. Where necessary, appropriate authorities will be notified in line with regulatory requirements.

Cleaners NW8 ensures that employees are familiar with emergency procedures at client sites, including fire evacuation arrangements, first aid provisions and how to raise alarms. Staff are instructed to stop work immediately if they consider a situation to be unsafe and to contact their supervisor for guidance.

Client Premises and Public Safety

We take particular care to ensure the safety of people who may be present at client premises, including residents, employees, visitors and the general public. Work areas are organised to minimise disruption and risk of slips, trips and falls, for example by using wet floor signs, managing trailing cables and keeping walkways clear.

Confidentiality and respect for client property are integral to our working practices. Cleaners NW8 staff are instructed not to interfere with client equipment or systems except as required for cleaning tasks and agreed with the client.

Wellbeing, Occupational Health and Lone Working

We actively seek to reduce risks from repetitive tasks, awkward postures, manual handling and prolonged use of chemicals by promoting good work techniques, rotation of duties where possible and adherence to safe systems of work.

Where employees work alone, for example during early morning or evening cleaning, appropriate lone working procedures are followed. These may include check-in arrangements, defined communication protocols, access controls and restrictions on high-risk activities when alone.

This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains suitable and effective in light of changes in our services, working methods, legislation and industry best practice. Feedback from employees and clients is welcomed and used to improve our arrangements.
